WEBINAR: HUMANITY & EQUALITY “UNTOLD STORY OF DIVERSITY”

Creative and Multimedia Laboratory and Management Laboratory Economics and Business Faculty held an event in 1st February 2021. The event started at 08.30-12:00 AM through Zoom meeting while broadcast in FEB official Youtube due to Covid-19 protocols. This event called webinar is a part of session B-TALK Webinar that Creative and Multimedia Laboratory produce every 6 months with Humanity and Equality “Untold Story of Diversty” as the Theme of 2nd session, with Resta Mardiana as Master of Ceremony and inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Suliyanto, S.E., M.Si as Dean of Economics and Business Faculty, Jenderal Soedirman University.  It also attended by Dr. H. Ruknan., S.Sos., M.M., M.Pd as 1st Speaker from Ministry of Education and Culture with Ankarlina Pandu Primadata, S.Sos., M.Si as 2nd Speaker. Meanwhile the event also invited 3 interviewees, which are: Abinoak (Papua Province), Geszang (Sumatra Province), and Nenshirina (Kalimantan Province). 

            The event began with greeting Nur atikah as Chief Committee, then continued with greeting from the Dean of Economics and Business Faculty. In His Speech, Prof. Dr. Suliyanto, S.E., M.M said that the theme was very interesting and unique but also relevant with current and future condition of Indonesia Diversity. As we know about Indonesia diverse character such as: culture difference, languages, ethnicity and also religion. However, if the diversity isn’t accepted it will cause a problems. Luckiky, there are not such thing in Indonesia right now.

The First speaker is Dr. H. Ruknan., S.Sos., M.M., M.Pd from Ministry of Education and Culture with a topic of Four Big Challenge of World such as: The Change of Economics Structure, The Rapid Growth of Technologies and Knowledge, Nature Sustainability, and the thinning barriers between countries.  Also, he mentioned about the challenge faced by education sector as industrial revolution 4.0. That phenomenon lead to changing requirement of freshly undergraduated student from university  must have skills that needed by the labor demands in these industry era that familiar with technology.

According to data, Indonesian human resources competitiveness in global, ranked in 36 out of 137 countries in the world. So, to increase the competitiveness human resources must have ready skill such as interpersonal, but intrapersonal. Tthere are 10 skill that needed so student can competed in bigger stage around the world, such as: 

  1. Problem Solving
  2. Critical Thinking and analyzing best solution
  3. Creative
  4. People Management
  5. Good Coordination
  6. Emotional Intelligence
  7. Good Judgement and best decision
  8. Filling needs
  9. Negotiation skills 
  10. Think fast. 

To support the growth of the skill, Ministry of Education and Culture build a unit under the name of Education Financing Services Unit (Pelayanan Pembiayaan Pendidikan). The main program of this unit was KIP (Kartu Indonesia Pintar), and other scholarship with the intention of increasing access for people under poverty so they can get fair and equitable access to higher education. The fundamentals law of KIP is UU No.12/2012 about Higher education and Pemendikbud No. 10 Tahun 2020 about Indonesia Pintar Program. 

There are a couple of goals in Indonesia Pintar Program for Higher Education, which is: 

  1. Increasing expansion of access for study in University for student under poor financial condition. 
  2. Increasing achievement for student in academics and non academics
  3. Guarantee and cuntinualy of student study from 3T and or student who study in rural area, affected by disaster and social conflicts.
  4. Raising number of student participant in higher education.

KIP is an aid for student under poor financial economics condition that accepted in higher education. KIP-Kuliah guarantee the sustainability of free tuitition and free fee of daily nececities and monthly for student who are meet the requirements of economics and academics condition. 

Priority of KIP acceptance:

  1. Higher education student with KIP
  2. Student from poor financial economics family condition (PKH, KKS, DTKS, Panti sosial)
  3. Student with short access (Afirmasi)
  4. Student with other special condition etc.

Before continuing to the second speakers, the event invited student from different kind of island who are currently studying in Jenderal Soedirman University. There three of them which is: Abinoak Gobai (Papua Province), Nenshiria Septyaning Wibowo (Borneo Island), and Gesang Danang Dwihutomo (Sumatera Province). They are shared their experienced about facing diversity in day to day life as minority in Java island. 

Second speaker is Ankarlina Pandi Primadata S.Sos. M.Si (Lecturer of Sociology Major in Jenderal Soedirman University). Her is about Conflicts and racial discrimination faced by Multikultural citizen. Multicultural citizen is a people who are consists of structure variation of culture and have high differences. Multicultural citizen have charachteristics, which are: 

  1.   There are segmentation between social community
  2. Structure and institution tend to be noncomplementer
  3. Eesily get conflict
  4. The growth of social integration was there because of coercion
  5. Poltics domination

As race was defined as system to classified and use to categorize human into big group and to different biology characteristics. Then, along the way race was called as social construct.  Perception awas bild along the race that lead to stigma and stereotypes arise as a product of social construct  which shows as race discrimination. Race and ethnic discrimination  is a way of discrimination one group/ community that lead to lost or reduced recognition of certain races.  There area  a view race and ethnicity in Indonesian. 

  1. Colonialism Era 

Nedherlands was trying to maintaining their special position as the owner of Hindia Belanda with putting East Foreign citizen (Arabs, India, And Chineese) as second lower class, and native as third lower class.

  • New Order Era

The emergence of racial Chineese decendants in New order Era with 54 Law in national scale  (Central Government) with a very discriminative and 35 Law that specificly for chineese decendants ethnic. 

  • Reformation- now

After reformation, there are a lot of discrimination going and happening around race and ethnicities. The discrimination tend to be primodial and communal. 

There are reason why conflicts and race discrimination happened, such as: difference of interest, ethnocentrism, stereotype, insecure, competitives and exploitation and etc.

After the speakers and interviewees finished, there are question and answers session.  In this session participant can give a talkactive conversation and answer for the speakers in comment chat room section or using raise hand feature in zoom. After the disscussiona nd Question Answer session, the event has been ended and close by the Master of Ceremony Resta Mardiana.
